What if you find a place that fits your dreams, but the landlord does not allow pets? What do you do? Do you give up your dream house or your precious furball? Well, here we will tell you how you can keep both.
HOW TO SNEAK A CAT INTO THE HOUSE
The ideal time to sneak a cat into the house is either early in the morning or late at night when few people are moving around. Don’t bring your cat on the day you move in. Your neighbors may come to welcome you or offer help to assist. Since you don’t know yet, if they are trustworthy, it is probably best to keep your pet a secret.
Once you are done settling in, bring your cat home. Choose a time when not many people are around. Use the backdoor or emergency exit to sneak your cat in, depending on what kind of residence it is.
Don’t tell your neighbors about your cat. Word can spread to your landlord, and you don’t want that.
Once you have snuck your cat into your home, there are a couple of things you can do to keep its presence a secret.
TRAIN YOUR CAT
To successfully hide your cat, you have to train it to behave accordingly. If your cat meows all night long, your neighbors might find out about it and, eventually, your landlord.
Training your cat is crucial in keeping your secret safe. You have to be patient, as it takes cats a while to learn new behaviors.
So what should you train your cat for?
USING THE LITTER BOX
Cat excretions are foul-smelling. The smell is very distinct, and anyone who has ever been around a cat can recognize it. If you get it on your carpet or couch, it will be very difficult to get rid of it. Train your cat to use the litter box so that the house stays clean and fresh smelling.
Make sure you clean the litter box when it is full, or your cat would not want to use it. Buy a litter box that is easy to hide and meets the needs of your cat.
SLEEPING ALONE
Train your cat to sleep alone in a room at night. You can use catnip to attract your cat to its bed or wherever it is sleeping. This will ensure that your cat is not wandering out during the night.
PLAYING WITH TOYS
To keep your cat from getting bored, buy some toys. When cats need care, they tend to meow for attention. Play with your cat for an hour so that it gets tired enough to sleep through the night.
If you are at work during the day, leave some toys out that can keep your cat engaged. Usually, toy mice are a good option.
FEEDING TIMES
Specify the feeding times of your cat, so that it is easy for you both. Cats that eat all the time can make a fuss when they don’t have any food, and you are not home.
Give your cat its breakfast and then leave enough food for the day. Don’t forget to fill fresh water for your cat every day before you leave for work. Make sure your cat eats its dinner till it is full, and then don’t give it any food until morning.
