The Stanley Cup finals has to rank as one of the best sporting events that North America has to offer, at least when it finally resumes after all the social distancing. Whether you’re a hockey fan or not, there’s plenty to get excited about, and plenty of weird and wonderful traditions to add to your party. Your sunroom is the best place to host a Stanley Cup party as the change in Daylight Savings comes just at the right time for longer evenings and more warmth and light in your sunroom from Desert Sun Patios.
Whether you’re celebrating the first game, the last game or trying to host a party for every single game (all the way up to a potential game 7!), follow some of these tips to make your sunroom the only place to celebrate the Stanley Cup this spring:
- Giant screens – any Stanley Cup party is incomplete without a screen showing the game. However, your sunroom might not be set up with a TV. However, the big windows means that it’s the perfect opportunity to hire an inflatable outdoor screen so your guests can watch the game in real size without having the screen dominate the room.
- Themed decorations – the food and drink will of course be at the centre of your Stanley Cup sunroom party. If your home town is in the finals, then it makes sense to have everything decked out in your team colours, but if you’re just in for watching two of the best hockey teams duke it out, then think about splitting the room in half for each team. Your guests can then choose from identical snacks and drinks served on different coloured plates and cups, as well as decorated cookies with team logos on.
- Be your own bookmaker – hockey and gambling have always gone hand in hand, and while you’re probably playing for quarters for fun, you can set up an area of your sunroom as an official bookmakers for your guests to place bets on everything from the time of the first goal to the most frequent type of penalty. You could give everyone a card with different categories and have the winner be the one with the most correct guesses, or play by “the price is right” rules where the person with the closest guess without going over wins. In either way, it will keep even lukewarm fans in your sunroom to see if they win.
Finally, it wouldn’t be the Stanley Cup without some unusual traditions, and you can use these to make your sunroom party pop. For example, the winning team celebrates by drinking champagne from the bowl top, so buy or rent glasses that are in the shape of the Stanley Cup (or print out pictures and stick them to the front of your glasses!) and have your guests continue this tradition with whatever drink comes to hand.
In any scenario, your sunroom is one of the smaller entertaining spaces in your home, so make sure that you think about traffic flow and how you’ll refresh the food and drinks table without getting in anyone’s way. Once this is sorted, it’s time to kick back and enjoy the Stanley Cup!
